- Another option is to use wood glue and strengthen it with a spline. A spline is a piece of thin wood. A groove half the size of the spline is carved into the first block of wood; and another groove (also half the size of the spline) is carved into the second block of wood. Smear glue into the grooves and along the edges of the wood. Insert the spline into the first block of wood. It should look like this:

Align the second block of wood then bury the remaining half of the spline into the groove. The two blocks should now be flush and connected. Mind that when using glue, you need to apply pressure and keep both sides firmly in place overnight.
